| What is Aviane?
Aviane is a contraceptive (it prevents pregnancy) consists of a combination progestin (levonorgestrel) and estrogen (ethinyl estradiol). This work by preventing ovulation (the release of an egg from an ovary) and changing the cervical mucus to prevent penetration of sperm and ovum implantation. Aviane may also be prescribed to regulate the menstrual cycle.
The doctor may have suggested Aviane for conditions other than those listed in these drug information articles. If you have not consulted your doctor about it or you do not know why you are taking Aviane, please contact the doctor. Do not stop taking Aviane without first consulting your doctor.
How should I use Aviane?
Consult your physician to determine the best time to start taking this contraceptive. The first day of menses (menstruation) is day 1 of the menstrual cycle. It is possible that the doctor tells you to start treatment is the Sunday after your period starts or on Day 1 of your menstrual cycle. You should take your pill every day at about the same time, preferably at dinner or bedtime. During the first seven days of the first cycle of taking pills, use a second contraceptive method (eg. Latex condoms and spermicidal foam or gel). Many women have spotting or light bleeding or feel sick to their heart during the first three months of treatment. Even if you feel sick, do not stop taking the tablets. Normally, this symptom gradually disappears. Otherwise, tell your doctor or nurse.
This contraceptive may be less effective if you vomit if you have diarrhea or if you are taking medications (eg, antibiotics). If a doctor prescribes other medications, check with him or your pharmacist to see if they reduce the effectiveness of birth control you take. Use another method of contraception (eg. Latex condoms and spermicidal foam or gel) until you have received no reply to this topic.
Several factors can affect the dose that a person needs, such as body weight, the presence of other medical conditions and other medications. If your doctor has recommended a dose different from the ones listed here, do not change the way employment without consulting your doctor.
It is very important that Aviane be taken exactly as directed by your doctor. If you forget to take a pill, the risk of pregnancy increases. If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember, and take along on schedule. This means you can take two tablets on the same day.
If you forget to take one pill two consecutive days during the first two weeks of the cycle, take two tablets on the day you remember and two pills the next day and keep taking one pill a day until the end of your plate. Use another method of birth control if you have sex in the seven days of oblivion.
If you miss two tablets of Aviane in a row during the third week of the cycle, or at least three tablets in a row anytime during the cycle and if you take your first pill on a Sunday, keep taking one pill a day until Sunday. On Sunday, throw out the rest of the pack in a safe and start a new one the same day.

Do not throw medicines in the wastewater (eg. Not in the sink or in the toilet) or with household waste. Ask your pharmacist how to dispose of unused or expired medications.
In which case Aviane drug is it safe?
Aviane is not recommended cons in the following cases:
* Thrombophlebitis or thromboembolic disorders current or past
* Cerebrovascular disorders past or present (stroke)
* A history of heart attack
* CAD
* Liver disease
* Tumors of benign or malignant liver current or past
* Current breast cancer, past or suspected
* Estrogen-dependent tumor present, past or suspected
* Undiagnosed abnormal uterine bleeding
* Eye damage resulting from vascular disease of the eye, eg partial or total loss of vision or visual field defect
* Known or suspected pregnancy
