| What is Nasonex?
Nasonex is drug used in allergic rhinitis and allergy-related inflammation of the nasal mucosa. An allergy is a hypersensitivity reaction of the immune system to harmless substances like pollen, pet hair and more. In an attempt to defeat the enemy supposed to be producing large amounts of inflammatory mediators – including the tissue hormone histamine and signal substances from the group of leukotrienes and cytokines.
These mediators trigger inflammation and are ultimately responsible for the symptoms: sneezing, running nose, runny nose, swollen nasal passages and itching.
Nasonex is a steroid derivative and has a strong anti-inflammatory effect, which prevents the formation and release of inflammatory substances from the group of leukotrienes and cytokines. The drug combats the inflammation of the nasal mucosa locally and moves only very slightly further into the body – can be avoided as much unwanted side effects of other steroid preparations.
Nasonex effectively relieves the symptoms of allergic rhinitis. It suppresses inflammation and helps to prevent damage to the nasal mucosa by continued allergic reactions. The effect is not immediately but within 48 hours – momethasone should be applied regularly. The drug is also suitable for long-term use over several months. Pollen allergies should start treatment before the onset of hay fever season.
